Gordon Lightfoot also wrote another song about another ship wreck that not many people know. The song is "Ballad of Yarmouth Castle". As the person who told me about this song mentioned, this song is about an ocean going cruise ship. While the Edmond Fitzgerald's sinking might not have been preventable, the sinking of the Yarmouth Castle was preventable. I understand that safety regulations on cruise ships were made much more strict, no matter what country owned it.

The problem that non-musician/writers have with Dylan is that they view/listen to Dylan with a bias from listening to other music. So the expectation/comparison is with other music and musicians. That's not the way to view Dylan. The key to understanding Dylan is this: Dylan is a poet who happens to make music. He is not a musician that happens to write lyrics. The music is secondary to what is said. And what about the voice? It is contrived and not real. It is an emulation of his hero Woody Guthrie. If you want to hear Dylan's real voice, go listen to the album Nashville Skyline. If you didn't know it was Dylan before listening, you wouldn't know it was Dylan. And speaking of Woody Guthrie, if you want to hear some flat-out devastating bars, go listen to Dylan's poem "Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie". It's 7 minutes of the truth and an absolute work of genius lyrical art.

There Is Not A Bad Track On This Album

The Black Crowes are such an extraordinary band that brought so much soul to their rock n roll. I would love to see a reaction to "Cursed Diamond", "Wiser Time", "Could I Have Been So Blind", and/or "Seeing Things for the First Time". I think Cursed Diamond is one of their best songs and is often overlooked.

Chris Robinson is the vocalist and his brother is Rich Robinson who is one of the guitarists. The Black Crowes are now back together and touring with a new album that just came out.

That was Shorty Medlocke on harmonica. He also wrote the song. Oh. Shorty was SIXTY-EIGHT years old when this was recorded! Played the daylights out of it. His grandson was the lead singer and lead guitar player. Who gets to cut a Top 20 single with their grandpa?

It's a great title and album cover, and the music is fun, even though everybody's raving about the intro which has essentially nothing to do with Lou Reed - I guess he was trying to lure in the 'heavy rock' market (that was a term back then). But what let him down was that he wasn't really that good at portraying the "rock'n'roll animal" - if you look at interviews from this period, he's constantly trying to be provocative in the most pathetic teenager style, "mammoth fail" as the kids used to say a while ago. Also if you see clips of live performances from 73-74... meh. It's a shame because ... he could and did do better than that. Still, fun record though.

Rare Earth covered a lot of Motown hits. I got to attend a "personal" concert about 35 years ago in Woodstock, IL. They showed up out of the blue in a bar in town, I believe as a favor to the bar owner. There was such short notice, most people didn't even know they were here. I paid (IIRC) $15 for me and the (future) wife, and got to see these guys from about 8 feet away playing to an audience of around 20 people. It was absolutely amazing.

When you have grown up throughout your life with Steppenwolf, !you can understand what this band went through throughout the years. John had problems with holding the band together, and alot of it had to do with the time we lived in. Good show.

This song came out in 1963 and become no.1 the week my parents got married in the November. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year and i got this song played and 50% of the guests were in tears. Its a song that stirs up so many emotions. Many people who have mental health issues have said this song has helped them to truely believe there is help and they are not the only one.

I adore this group, have since the 60s. My generation…..best ever
